15:40 Rockstar feeling euphoric at new deal (0)

With Epic's Unreal Engine 3 being all the rage at the moment, you might forgive developers for overlooking other options, since UE3 has proven its capabilities. Congratulate Rockstar then for doing something different. They have partnered up with NaturalMotion who developed the Dynamic Motion Synthesis (DMS) technology. The deal allows Rockstar to incorporate NaturalMotion's new "euphoria" engine into upcoming games.

No-one expects you to understand what the hell DMS is, but thankfully research has been done and here are the results. The "euphoria" engine brings (DMS) onto the next generation of hardware.

With euphoria, animations are not canned but are generated on-the-fly by the CPU as the game is played. Every tackle is your tackle, every haymaker is your haymaker.

Manhunt 2 coming to a Wii, PSP and PS2 near you this summer

Rockstar Games recently announced Manhunt 2 for release on the PlayStation 2, PSP and Nintendo Wii. Manhunt 2 will be the first title produced by the recently formed Rockstar London studio, which is developing the game in conjunction with Rockstar North who created the original. The Wii version is being developed by Rockstar Toronto.

"With Manhunt 2 we have tried to create a game that stays close to the original concept of chilling suspense and stealth, whilst pushing the game design and storytelling forward," said Sam Houser, founder and executive producer of Rockstar Games. "We are also excited to have our newest development team, Rockstar London, working on the title alongside our two established UK studios, Rockstar North and Leeds."

Vice City Stories coming to the PS2. Wait, didn't they say...

Many of you will remember my visit to Rockstar that occurred last year. It was a good time, and I got to preview Bully and Vice City Stories. This passage in particular may jump out at you from the article:

While I enjoyed Liberty City Stories, the PS2 version was not one of the better titles I've played this year, and I thought that releasing a straight port for $20 was silly when you were still moving good amounts of the PSP original for full price. I was assured, more than once, that Vice City Stories was PSP only; there will be no PS2 port.

So you can imagine my surprise when this comes across my desk:
