| Taste of Chaos leaves a sweet taste in mouths
"I was in the hospital today with tubes going down my throat and up my nose and everywhere else you can imagine," 30 Seconds to Mars front man Jared Leto told a packed crowd at the Rockstar Taste of Chaos last Thursday night. "The doctor said I would be crazy if I went on tonight and played for 10,000 crazy [fans] at the Long Beach Arena, but I told him this is home and you are family and you would take care of me no matter what." The huge crowd did help take care of Leto, screaming every word of hits "From Yesterday," "The Kill" and "Attack" during the band's hour-long set. Leto even made his way through the crowd and played an intimate solo set from the soundboard in the middle of the floor. Leto and company were just one of eight bands that played the annual tour.
Taste of Chaos was a test of tolerance
Large multi-bill concerts, such as The Rockstar Taste of Chaos Tour at Arco Arena on Feb. 23, require due patience and a strong will. The patience is not for braving mosh-pits or long concession lines. No, the patience and will are required for sitting through acts of no-name bands that are often met with little more than a yawn and head nod. The lead singer of Aiden, Wil Francis, probably put it best: Usually during these type of shows you have to sit through a bunch of bands you don't care about to get to the ones you do. Being a big fan of The Used and Senses Fail, I was excited to see them live for the first time. Co-headliner 30 Seconds to Mars dropped out of the show because of an unspecified illness to lead singer Jared Leto, so that only meant more time for the bands I came to see.
Serving up home-cooked Chaos
Sweaty, fist-pumping punk and metal fans slammed in a massive mosh pit at the Long Beach Arena Thursday as bands of the 2007 Rockstar Taste of Chaos Tour shelled out more than five hours of punk- and metal-fused music. Kevin Lyman, creator of the Vans Warped Tour, a popular nationwide punk tour, founded the Taste of Chaos tour in 2004. "Warped Tour was a summer thing, and I wanted to try something different in the winter. Thus the world of metal and punk merged to form the Taste of Chaos tour," Lyman said. This year's line-up includes Aiden, Evaline, Chiodos, Senses Fail, Saosin and headliners 30 Seconds to Mars and The Used. Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands winner Victory Within kicked off the Long Beach concert, followed by strong sets from Evaline, Aiden, Chiodos, Saosin and Senses Fail.
