Manhunt sequel coming to Nintendo Wii

Rockstar Games has announced that a sequel to controversial 2003 title Manhunt is on the way - and that a version will be produced for Nintendo Wii.

It will be the debut title from new studio Rockstar London, with help from series creator Rockstar North and Rockstar Leeds. Versions are also planned for PlayStation 2 and PSP, and the game is due out this summer.

"With Manhunt 2 we have tried to create a game that stays close to the original concept of chilling suspense and stealth, whilst pushing the game design and storytelling forward," said Rockstar founder and series producer Sam Houser.

"We are also excited to have our newest development team, Rockstar London, working on the title alongside our two established UK studios, Rockstar North and Leeds."

The news of a Manhunt sequel is not likely to be well received by many campaigners against violence in videogames, particularly in Britain - where the original game was linked by the media to the murder of teenager Stefan Pakeerah.

Rockstar planning sequel to Manhunt

NEW YORK: Game maker Rockstar Games announced Wednesday it is developing a sequel to its 2003 title Manhunt. The title will be available for both Nintedo's gaming console Wii as well as Sony's PlayStation 3. Manhunt 2, as the game will be titled, will be the debut release from the newly formed Rockstar London studio, the company said in a press release. The development is being carried out at the studio in conjunction with the series creator Rockstar North. Manhunt 2 will be available this summer. .

Manhunt 2 confirmed. Horror is coming to Wii

Yep, Rockstar has officially confirmed that Manhunt 2 is in development for PS2, PSP and Wii - Nintendo has apparently been courting Rockstar for months and until now it's been assumed that the manufacturer was after GTA. Now it seems they had darker ambitions. For those who've lived in an Amish commune for the last five years, Manhunt put the player in the role of an ex-con who is baited into murdering a series of gang members and riff-raff for the pleasure of a sadistic voyeur. It is just about as far from Wario Ware as you could possibly get.

The Playstation versions are being developed by Rockstar's new London studio (although Leeds might have bagged the PSP port) - both under the watchful eye of Rockstar North. The Wii translation is in the hands of Rockstar Toronto, previously responsible for Warriors.

New Manhunt Coming To Nintendo Wii, PS2, PSP

I have to admit, I don't think of Wii off the top of my head when I think of controversial video games involving graphic and bloody executions.   But hey, Nintendo Wii is not NES, and variety is the spice of life.   So Manhunt 2 is scheduled smack dab in the middle of summer.  Welcome back, smilies!

Rockstar Games recently announced that in addition to Wii, Manhunt 2 is also scheduled for Sony's PlayStation 2 and PSP.

"With Manhunt 2 we have tried to create a game that stays close to the original concept of chilling suspense and stealth, whilst pushing the game design and storytelling forward," said Sam Houser, founder and executive producer of Rockstar Games. "We are also excited to have our newest development team, Rockstar London, working on the title alongside our two established UK studios, Rockstar North and Leeds."
