| NaturalMotion Partners With Rockstar Games
NaturalMotion announced a partnership with publishing label Rockstar Games Inc. to integrate NaturalMotion's euphoria engine into upcoming next-gen Rockstar titles. Based on NaturalMotion's DMS technology, euphoria uses the processing power of PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 to simulate the human body and motor nervous system, thus creating fully interactive game characters that act differently every time. With euphoria, games move away from canned animation, toward a much richer, life-like experience that is unique to the player. "euphoria is about giving people an interactive experience they have never seen before. We now have the processing power to simulate humans, and the possibilities for games are endless," said Torsten Reil, ceo of NaturalMotion. "In Rockstar, we have found a partner that shares this vision, and is renowned for creating some of the most ground-breaking and immersive games in the industry..." Further announcements regarding specific titles will follow at a later date.
New engine licensed by Rockstar
Today, Rockstar Games announced a partnership with NaturalMotion to incorporate the euphoria engine into new upcoming Rockstar titles. NaturalMotion, a motion-sensing technology developer, has developed the euphoria engine, which is also in use in two other upcoming titles. Namely, LucasArts' upcoming Star Wars and Indiana Jones games. The purpose of the euphoria engine is to bring more real-life human movements into games. "We now have the processing power to simulate humans, and the possibilities for games are endless," said Torsten Reil, CEO of NaturalMotion. 15:40 Rockstar feeling euphoric at new deal (0)
With Epic's Unreal Engine 3 being all the rage at the moment, you might forgive developers for overlooking other options, since UE3 has proven its capabilities. Congratulate Rockstar then for doing something different. They have partnered up with NaturalMotion who developed the Dynamic Motion Synthesis (DMS) technology. The deal allows Rockstar to incorporate NaturalMotion's new "euphoria" engine into upcoming games. No-one expects you to understand what the hell DMS is, but thankfully research has been done and here are the results. The "euphoria" engine brings (DMS) onto the next generation of hardware. With euphoria, animations are not canned but are generated on-the-fly by the CPU as the game is played. Every tackle is your tackle, every haymaker is your haymaker.
